Lutron Aims to Make Lighting and Security Integration Easier than Ever
If you have a monitored security system, chances are good that it’s the last thing you interact with on your way out the door and the first piece of tech you tap into when arriving home again. Arming your home when you’re away gives you the peace of mind of knowing that someone else is watching over the abode while you’re not there. And disarming it? Well, that makes all of the annoying beeping stop.
If you also have a Lutron RadioRA 2 system managing your home’s lighting, though, your security system will soon be capable of so much more.
At next month’s ISC West, a tradeshow dedicated to security innovations, Lutron plans to demonstrate the new advanced security integration capabilities of its RadioRA 2 system, and host a number of in-booth training sessions designed to show installers just how easy it is to integrate wireless Lutron lighting with security systems from Alarm.com, DSC, Elk, HAI, and Honeywell.
With your lighting and security intertwined, turning off all of the lights in your home is as simple as arming your system in Away mode. Disarm your alarm when you arrive home again, and your lights and shades will spring into action. Add a Lutron TouchPRO Wireless thermostat, and your comfort control system will also intelligently adapt to your presence—or lack thereof—in the home.
As we’ve mentioned before, automated lighting is also a great way to enhance the safety and security of your home, automatically illuminating a safe exit path if your alarm system detects a fire, or flashing interior and exterior lights in the event of an intrusion. But that sort of functionality usually requires a more comprehensive home control system between the lighting and security systems to handle communications between the two. With Lutron’s new RadioRA 2 security integration, you’ll be able to start much smaller—adding just a dimmer or switch or two to your system to take advantage of essential lighting and even Lutron’s new cloud-based Home Control+ smartphone control capabilities—and expand your system to add additional features as your budget allows.
