One of the main reasons that 3D hasn’t taken off is the lack of content. Well, Samsung is certainly doing its part. The company just announced availability of YouTube 3D for its customers.
The manufacturer first announced plans to add the service back in September at Germany’s IFA. This was shortly after the company launched its own Explore 3D app, which includes free access to 3D music videos, cartoons, documentaries, and movie/game trailers.
According to Electronista, Samsung says that they will have YouTube 3D as an exclusive—at least to start.
Samsung’s original announcement says that the service will add the option to view thousands of 3D videos with 720p HD quality.
“The launch of YouTube on TV underscores one of YouTube’s core missions: to make high quality video available anywhere and on any device,” said Francisco Varela, YouTube’s Global Head of Platform Partnerships. “In addition to our efforts in web and mobile, 3D videos on YouTube can now also be and shared and enjoyed through high-quality/large-screen enabled Smart TVs.”
Smart TV users in North America, the UK and Japan should now have access to YouTube 3D. Just look for an update in Samsung’s Smart TV app portal.
