New Onkyo Receivers Offer Upscaling and Extra Inputs

by Rachel Cericola/Electronic House

Onkyo thinks it’s time for a bit of an A/V upgrade. The company just announced two new receivers, which will replace two current models in the HT-RC family.

The HT-RC370  and HT-RC360 will come in, and the HT-RC270 and HT-RC260 will go away.

One of the major improvements over the older models is that the HT-RC370 and HT-RC360 will both have the new Marvell Qdeo 4K video upscaling processor. Designed to futureproof your system, this feature promises to upscale video to 1080p and beyond to as much as 4K of horizontal resolution—regardless of the source resolution. Both also have a front-panel USB port, for easy playback from a USB drive, iPhone or iPod.

Other features on both 7.2 receivers include support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, Audyssey DSX or Dolby ProLogic IIz processing, Onkyo’s own WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) amplifiers, and Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit DACs.

Each one also has networking capabilities, so you can stream audio right from your computer, as well as web radio and services such as of Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, SiriusXM Internet Radio, and more. Of course, being able to network your receiver allows for easy firmware upgrades, as well as control via Onkyo’s free Remote App for iPod, iPhone, or iPad.

How to choose between the two new receivers? The HT-RC360 has Audyssey 2EQ room correction and Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume, while the HT-RC370 comes packing Audyssey MultEQ XT processing, as well as THX Select2 Plus certification. The RC370 also has one extra HDMI port, for a total of six.

Expect the Onkyo HT-RC370 and HT-RC360 to start selling this month. The HT-RC370 has an MSRP of $849, with the HT-RC360 coming in at $549.
