High Tech Entertainment Even Away

It’s challenging enough to install cutting-edge technology in a single home. Now multiply that by over 200, and you’ll have an idea of the challenge that faced leading area tech/AV integrator Aurant when The Montage Hotel called.

The management at The Montage, a high-end hotel in Deer Valley, had an ambitious vision for an AV upgrade in its guest rooms.

“The Montage wanted to equip its guest suites with first-rate smart home packages that had intuitive, unintimidating automated control of everything from TV service, music, lighting, HVAC comfort and hotel services to wake-up alarms—all from one simple on-screen menu,” recalled Aurant Vice President of Sales Danny Moreno.

To prepare for the job, the Aurant team did extensive research before any work was done. “Through out-of-state visits to other Montage Hotels with the developer, we were able to determine what would make perfect sense,” Moreno said. “Plain and simple, we brought a level of design to the project that the hotel very much desired and appreciated.

“The Hotel was really broken into two parts,” Moreno continued. “First, you had 177 guest suites where we installed customized Control4 packages and then you had all of the common areas of the hotel where we installed significant high-scale audio/video and surveillance packages. With the common areas we were able to bring a vast knowledge of product types and systems that could accommodate anything they desired. In many cases the Montage did not know what they needed but moreso, what they desired for the customers to experience. We stepped in and provide them a wide range of guidance as to what would help them fulfill those desires.”

Naturally, with a recognized brand like Montage, certain guidelines had to be followed closely. “It was a ‘Montage’ project, which carries a design all on its own,” Moreno stated.

As you may expect with a project of this magnitude, the biggest challenge was time. “By the time we got involved on this project, they had already reached the fourth level,” Moreno recalled. “We had to work extremely fast and with the hotel being approximately 1 million square feet with 177 Guest Suites, and housing over 80 private residences, there was a lot of ground to cover.”

The dedicated Aurant team got to work, and after two-and-a-half years of intensive effort, the job was completed—to the complete satisfaction of the hotel’s leadership.

The features and special touches Aurant delivered were most appreciated: “In the guest suites, the Control4 Automated systems bring a ‘wow’ factor that is so cool and yet so simple to use,” Moreno said. “The fact that it’s so inclusive yet so easy really takes the whole experience to the next level. (Guests) can even set the ‘do not disturb’ at the door from bed!

“In the guest suites and private residences where we’ve done work, these guests and homeowners now have a system in place where they can so simply access any hotel services, adjust any level of lighting and HVAC comforts, and on and on and on, from bed. It’s like a miniature custom home in every suite and in the private residences it allows them to spend more time on the things that matter when you on vacation like spa time and skiing!”
