Experienced in designing and building houses, the client knew what audio/video systems she wanted in her new home, but the custom electronics firm she was working with was trying to sell technologies she and her husband didn’t want.
So when Georgia Home Theater System Designer Keith Buckett and Sales Manager Eric Joy visited her on the North Atlanta estate lot shortly after breaking ground, she told them of her frustrations with the other company.
Georgia Home Theater listened carefully to the client and her husband and worked closely with their builder to deliver exactly what the couple wanted: a home that reflected their love of music, upgraded their lifestyle with new technology and also re-purposed much of the quality audio/video equipment the couple already owned.
Meeting the client on her job site, Buckett and Joy weren’t shy about stating their belief that Georgia Home Theater could better address her needs. So the client and her husband later came to Georgia Home Theater’s Atlanta showroom, architectural plans in hand. After the meeting, Buckett gave them a formal proposal on pre-wiring their home for the desired technology systems and, later, a detailed system build for the entire house.
Buckett believes the client and her husband decided to hire Georgia Home Theater because they were comfortable with the company and its 20-year reputation for quality. “They also trusted me, having worked with me before,” said Buckett. “And the other company was not listening to the client.”
While the wife liked technology more than her husband, the couple, in general, “were not high tech people, they were not gadget-y people,” Buckett said. “They did not want lighting control, but the other company kept shoving it down their throat…. They do want all of the latest capabilities, but their primary interest was in getting fantastic music throughout the entire house.”
For the client’s French Provincial-style home, Georgia Home Theater designed and installed a 16-zone whole house audio system and four independent video systems: a surround sound home theater system in the informal “keeping room” off the kitchen, a terrace level private theater, and the fitness room.
The seven-seat private home theater featured a Runco HDTV DLP Projector, a Stewart Filmscreen fixed 110″ Firehawk projector screen, and surround sound provided by a 5.1 B&W speaker system powered by McIntosh components. A 10-inch touch screen Crestron remote controls the theater and its lighting.
The client elected to control theater acoustics with batting behind the drywall and very heavy French blue fabric on top. “It worked extremely well for sound dampening,” said Buckett.
The Keeping Room theater featured a Fujitsu 50″ HDTV plasma display, B&W in-wall speakers and the Escient Fireball E2-160 music management system connected to the home’s distributed audio system.
Anchored by McIntosh components and an Escient music server delivering loss-less CD-quality music, the whole house audio system featured B&W in-ceiling speakers and extended to the home’s gallery/bar, dining room, living room, study, pool house and covered porch. Rockoustics rock speakers brought high quality audio poolside.
Where possible, Georgia Home Theater used quality electronics from the couple’s existing home. For example, the master bedroom theater employs the couple’s existing 42-inch Fujitsu plasma display, HDTV satellite receiver, Denon surround sound receiver, Panasonic DVD player and JAMO speakers, but GHT added easy control of the system with a new Crestron wall-mount touch panel and a wireless remote.
The client and her husband “are very happy” with Georgia Home Theater’s systems in their new home. “It’s what they wanted, and that’s important to them,” said Buckett. “It was a joy for me to work with them.”
